Preparing for your first Ayurveda consultation
What to bring, what to discuss, and how to make the most of your time with the doctor.
Start with your own story
Before your visit, write down the concerns you want to discuss, when they began, and how they affect daily life. Include anything that seems to make them better or worse. You do not need to arrive with a diagnosis.
Choose two or three priorities so there is time to discuss what matters most to you. Sleep, appetite, digestion, activity and stress are useful topics to bring up.
Bring your medical information
Bring recent reports, any relevant diagnoses, and a list of medicines and supplements you take. Include prescription medicines, over-the-counter products and herbal preparations, along with allergies or past reactions.
Tell the doctor about pregnancy, breastfeeding, ongoing medical treatment or planned procedures. Do not stop or change prescribed medicines in preparation for your appointment unless your treating clinician advises it.
Ask about the proposed plan
Ask what the consultation findings mean, what options are available, and what evidence and limitations apply. If a medicine or therapy is suggested, ask about possible side effects, interactions, duration and follow-up.
Discuss practical questions too: costs, visit frequency and how a plan fits your work and home life. Before leaving, make sure you know whom to contact if you have a concern.
Know when not to wait
A routine appointment is not a substitute for urgent medical care. If you have severe or sudden symptoms, seek appropriate emergency assessment rather than waiting for a clinic visit.
